PURPOSE: - This is used for centrifuging blood samples to separate
serum or plasma.
LOCATION – Dengue Lab
DEFINITION – RPM- Revolutions per minute.
OPERATION
- It should be placed horizontally on even surface to avoid accidental displacement.
- Centrifuge tubes are balanced always with dummy tubes filled equally with water kept on the opposite side.
- Switch on and increase or decrease speed gradually.
- Always cover it with lid before starting it.
- Stop immediately if it makes abnormal noise.
- After the centrifugation is over, put off the switch and allow the centrifuge to stop spontaneously. Do not try to stop manually.
MAINTENANCE:

After use invert buckets to drain dry.
·
After any spillage, fill the buckets or any area
with 1% Hypochlorite, keep for 30 minutes then remove it, wipe with sterile
cotton.
·
Clean the centrifuge daily as it is most
frequently used instrument.
·
Check for corrosion and repaint if necessary.
RESPONSIBILITY – Laboratory Technicians
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
- Do not use without balance on opposite side
- Do not stop it suddenly.
- Do not use without plugging the test tube mouth.
- Speed should not be raised rapidly.
- Stop immediately if there is breakage of tube. (Refer Safety Manual, Issue no.1, Section-13, Page no.62)
