Induction programme for new joinee in laboratory


1.     Scope
·       This SOP expains the method adopted in the lab for in-House Training of new Joinee in the laboratory.

First fifteen days: Posting as observer in stool sample receiving and processing. Skills taught:

o   Receiving of stool sample in bio-safety cabinet
o   Criteria of assessing quality of specimen
o   Labelling of Specimen
o   Entries in LRF
o   Storage of Sample
o   Processing of stool sample
o   Method of primary inoculation
o   Handling of refrigerated centrifuge and shaker
o   Waste disposal.

Next fifteen days: Posting as observer in cell-line. Skills taught:
o   Observation of normal RD and L20B Cell-Lines - Flask
o   Observation of normal RD and L20B Cell-Lines – Tubes

Next one month: Posting as observer in primary isolation. Skills taught:
·       Blind passage
o   Labelling of tubes and making worksheets
o   Observation of inoculated tubes
o   CPE observation
o   Freezing and thawing of tubes
o   Result of primary isolation

Next one month: Posting in primary isolation under guidance of senior technician. Tasks assigned:
o   Receiving and processing of stool sample
o   Storage of stool sample and extracts
o   Primary inoculation
·       Blind passage
·       Labelling of tubes and making worksheets
·       Observation of inoculated tubes
·       CPE observation
·       Freezing and thawing of tubes
·       Result of primary isolation

After three months: Induction process is over. Independent posting in stool sample receiving and processing given for a period of six months. Later on posting is given on a rotation basis for duration of six months each in every section of laboratory.
